Evolving Mobile Networks

چکیده

While the history of mobile communications is long [1–3], and the background of mobile networks thereby is also long, in this chapter we focus on the historic evolution in terms of network architecture and services starting with Second Generation (2G) mobile systems. In particular, we consider the development of the architecture of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), since it is by far the most widespread mobile system in the world today. This will provide the basis to cover the introduction of Universal Mobile Telecommunication Services (UMTS) in relation to its Core Network (CN) and radio architectures. The latter will in turn serve as the platform to present UMTS radio-access technology, which is one of the aims of this book.

Dagstuhl Seminar Scalable Data Management in Evolving Networks

We introduce different mobile network applications and show to which degree the concept of database transactions is required within the applications. We show properties of transaction processing and explain which properties are important for each of the mobile applications. Furthermore, we discuss open questions regarding transaction processing in mobile networks and identify open problems for ...

A Survey of Solutions to Protect Against All Types of Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

In recent years mobile networks have expanded dramatically, compared with other wireless networks. Routing protocols in these networks are designed with the assumption that there is no attacker node, so routing protocols are vulnerable to various attacks in these networks. In this paper, we review the network layer attacks and then we simulate the impact of black hole attack on ad hoc on demand...

3D Path Planning Algorithm for Mobile Anchor-Assisted Positioning in Wireless Sensor Networks

Positioning service is one of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) fundamental services. The accurate position of the sensor nodes plays a vital role in many applications of WSNs. In this paper, a 3D positioning algorithm is being proposed, using mobile anchor node to assist sensor nodes in order to estimate their positions in a 3D geospatial environment. However, mobile anchor node’s 3D path optim...

Evolving networks

Most real networks often evolve through time: changes of topology can occur if some nodes and/or edges appear and/or disappear, and the types or weights of nodes and edges can also change even if the topology stays static. Mobile devices with wireless capabilities (mobile phones, laptops, etc.) are a typical example of evolving networks where nodes or users are spread in the environment and con...
